Humane Society of Wayne
County Moves Forward with SCORE
The Wayne County Humane Society, dba Humane Society of Wayne County (HSWC) is a 501(c)(3) corporation located in Lyons, New York. HSWC was founded in 1983 by a group of thoughtful, committed citizens who were determined to change the conditions for animals in Wayne County. A two year capital campaign undertaken in 1987 raised the initial capital required to lease property from the County and make renovations to existing buildings in order to convert them into suitable and state compliant shelters.

HSWC’s mission is to provide a humane facility to shelter, feed and care for lost, unwanted or abused domestic animals of Wayne County, New York and to provide a facility for humane education to the citizens of Wayne County.
HSWC seeks to ifluence and mold public opinion in respect to the care, treatment and welfare of animals, the relief of suffering among animals and the extension of humane education.

It also has the capability for treatment of animals and to euthanize animals as necessary. “SCORE really helped us focus in on the business planning process and establish both near-term and long-term planning objectives that are critical for our organization," Plyter says.
