SCORE and the Not for Profit Sector
Jill A. Pranger
Advanced Certified Fundraising Executive
The not-for-profit sector has been identified as an increasingly important part of American society. Often founded through the commitment and passion of a single individual, not-for-profit organizations can develop into entities with multi-million dollar budgets, providing service to thousands. A targeted mission, volunteer involvement, and a great deal of time spent on fundraising most often characterize these organizations.
So, what happens when a not-for-profit turns to SCORE for business and professional counsel? Are they vastly different from or mostly similar to for-profit organizations? What advice are they really seeking? How can the SCORE counselor best help?
This presentation provided basic information about not-for-profit organizations, articulated differences and similarities with for-profit organizations, and addressed your questions so you will be prepared to provide the best counsel possible to these important organizations.
