LMC Codes' Laura Cooney named SCORE Rochester's "2009 Client of the Year"

SCORE Rochester presented their 2009 Client of the Year award to Laura M. Cooney, AIA, President of Webster based LMC Codes, LLC.  Over 70 SCORE volunteers were on hand to congratulate Laura at the awards luncheon held at Oak Hill Country Club.  In receiving the award Cooney said, “SCORE’s assistance was valuable to me in establishing a successful business and it is good to know that they are available to continue to work with me as my business grows and expands.”  LMC Codes opened for business in July of 2008 and is enjoying broad recognition as an excellent provider of code training and code consultation.  Laura Cooney is also a private NYS Certified Code Enforcement Official.

Laura, a NYS registered architect, was adept at managing all aspects of design and construction and had developed expertise in building codes. While employed she had honed her skills as both a plans examiner and trainer.  Determining a market need for quality building code consulting and code training, the mother of two children started thinking about starting her own company.  After discussing her business idea with her husband Brian, a structural engineer, he encouraged her to move forward.

That spring, Laura spotted a SCORE flyer promoting business workshops and free business counseling offered at Webster’s Town recreation facility.  She came to her first meeting with a long list of business start-up questions.  She returned home with answers, a “homework” assignment from the SCORE counselor and a growing confidence that she could succeed at running her own business.

Larry Wirth presented Laura with a plaque designating LMC Codes the 2009 SCORE Client of the Year.  SCORE is a national volunteer organization of experienced business professionals who offer free, confidential counseling and low cost educational programs to help new and existing small business owners.
